NORTEC Business Incubators
To support the growth of small business on the North Coast of NSW, NORTEC has three small business incubator sites - the Ballina Business Centre (opened in 1993), Byron Creative Byron Bay (opened in 1999) and the CLIC Business Village Mullumbimby which opened in 2004.
The aim of the project is to provide the impetus for the development of a wide variety of light industrial and commercial enterprises for the Northern Rivers area and thereby enhance the industrial and commercial diversity that already exists here.
New Goonellabah Business Incubator Site Opening!
A brand new site in Goonellabah (5 mins from Lismore) has nearly finished construction and will be ready to house 15 start up businesses by January 2012. With support from AusIndustry, who supplied funding towards the project, NORTEC are very proud to finally achieve this goal of providing business incubator support for start-up businesses in the Lismore region.
The focus for the Goonellabah business incubator site is for professional services. Applications are being taken now for small businesses interested in securing a unit at the incubator site. For more information on applying please contact kym.kranen@nortecltd.com.au or phone Kym on 0408 829 780.

What does a Business Incubator Site Achieve?
The objectives of Business Incubator sites are to:
- foster self employment,
- assist business development,
- accelerate business growth,
- reduce the failure rate of start up businesses,
- assist businesses to operate, and
- increase employment opportunities and community wealth.
A business advisor is employed to provide business advice to tenants when required. Along with low rents, easy in-out leases take the headache out of long term lease commitments. A small business community with other tenants provides a supportive environment where tenants can share ideas and experiences.
Tenants have access to their space 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The aim is to provide the impetus for the further development of a wide variety of light industrial and commercial diversity that already exists in the Northern Rivers region.
Current business incubators sites are supporting 37 new businesses and with the Lismore incubator site opening by 2012, a further 15 businesses will be supported to encourage small business enterprise growth in our region.
