NORTEC in the Community
NORTEC is a not-for-profit organisation that delivers to the community through various commercial enterprises and directly via programs that are delivered to and accessible to the general community. These programs include government-funded programs, social enterprise and business incubators as well as the many community grants.

Community Program Delivery
NORTEC is a not-for-profit organisation and any profits from its commercial enterprises (NORTEC Labour Hire and also NORTEC Training) further support NORTEC community program delivery. These community programs include these Australian Government funded programs:
- Job Services Australia
- Disability Employment Services
- Youth Connections
- Language Literacy and Numeracy Program
- New Enterprise Incentive Scheme
- NORTEC Volunteering
- Golden Gurus; and
- Links to Learning (funded by NSW Department of Education and Training)
Social Enterprise and Business Incubators
NORTEC also invest in enterprise activities that will positively impact on employment prospects and socio-economic growth in our region.
These include:
- Nambucca Pride Café – a working hospitality training café
And four Small Business Incubator sites supporting up to 52 small businesses in the Northern Rivers region with easy in-out leases and business mentoring support.
These include:
- Byron Creative – which houses 15 creative-arts businesses that can retail to the public
- Mullumbimby CLIC – housing 12 professional office spaces (I.T and consultancy)
- Ballina Business Centre – housing 12 trades and manufacturing businesses
- Richmond Innovation Centre (RIC) – in Goonellabah, housing a further 15 professional office spaces suitable for consultancy businesses.
Community Grants and Sponsorships
NORTEC provide an annual $25,000 Community Grants Initiative where local community organisations or events can tender for financial aid for their community organisation or project. This is open to all community organisations or events that reside within NORTEC’s service footprint – from Nambucca to Tweed Heads. The initiative is usually launched in March/April each year.
In addition, NORTEC invest in charitable donations and sponsorships to the community—such as local surf clubs, hospitals and the NSW Cancer Council, as well as supporting organisations, activities and events that encourage social and economic growth in our region.
