Community Grants Initiative

NORTEC provide an annual Community Grants Initiative of $25,000, available for other not for profit organisations and activities in Northern NSW (from Coffs region to Tweed region) to apply for.
The 2012 Community Grants Initiative has recently finalised and the list of successful applicants are:

Tweed Region

  • $4000 - Beachside Communicare, Community Pantry initiative. Providing low cost food and health care items for families experiencing hardship
  • $1000 - Tweed Valley Jazz Club - a combined high schools introduction to live jazz music, information session for senior elective music students for further musical training

Richmond Region

  • $5000 - YWCA Pulse Cafe and Catering - Community in the Kitchen social enterprise, hospitaity training and work experience

North Coast (Ballina and Byron regions)

  • $2500 - Blue Rock Foundation, Hip Hop classes for young people in the Byron and Ballina shires.
  • $1500 - Community Table Cafe - Byron Community Centre six week mentoring and hospitality training for disadvantaged youth
  • $500 - Mullumbimby Community Garden - Living Fence Food Forest
  • $500 - Ballina Breast Cancer Support - free yoga in November for women recovering after breast cancer treatment

Clarence Region

  • $3500 Birigan Gargle Local Aboriginal Land Council - online youth project 'A Sense of Ability'
  • $1500 - Yamba Surf Life Saving Club - Inshore Rescue Boats training

Coffs Harbour Region

  • $2500 - Local M.A.D.E. - youth initiative providing skills workshops
  • $2000 - Deadly Sista Girlz - Dance for Health Wealth and Fitness
  • $458 - Nambucca Heads Men's Shed - providing support for local men to build skills and support networks
