Language, Literacy and Numeracy Program (LLNP)
BRUSH UP YOUR SKILLS!
NORTEC delivers the Language, Literacy and Numeracy Program (LLNP) funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). This is a free program for eligible participants. NORTEC's delivery of this program abides by and is regulated by DEEWR LLNP Provider Code of Conduct (article 11).
This program is suitable for people who did not get the best from schooling first time around - it is a chance to have another go! Some people can be fine in some areas and just need help in specific areas such as maths, writing or spelling. The program is great for getting your head working again and boosting your confidence after being out of the work force for a time.
The LLNP program can be a stepping stone towards further study and a qualification and is suitable also for those with a non-English Speaking background (not AMEP). The program offers initial, basic and advanced streams of training.
This program provides an opportunity to improve your skills in:
- reading, writing and maths
- planning and organising
- setting goals
- making phone calls
- basic computer skills
- confidence in speaking
- getting a Certififcate qualification
- job seeking
LLNP is not like school. It provides:
- one to one tutoring
- working in small groups
- a relaxed and friendly place
- qualified and experienced tutors
- you to work at your own pace
- a supportive learning environment
Eligibility
Clients must be of working age (15-64), registered with Centrelink as a job seeker and, if over 20 years, be in receipt of a specified income support payment. Referrals to NORTEC come from Centrelink offices or Job Service providers. Job Services Australia members are able to directly refer their clients to the Language, Literacy and Numeracy Program.
Assessments are made by NORTEC to determine eligibility and suitability for the program. Following assessment, a time is arranged to commence training.
Training hours are planned with the participant, with a maximum period of 800 hours allocated over a maximum period of two years. Each trainee has an individual study plan with training orientated towards practical vocational skills.
NORTEC has had many success stories from past clients - some completing their HSC, undertaking TAFE courses and gaining employment. Read about Noel's Success Story with Brush Up Your Skills!
The Interview
Once you are eligible you will be asked to come in for an interview which takes around two hours. Your current skills are assessed and you can also decide if the program is right for you. If it is, you then work with the tutor to plan a program that suits your learning needs.
